From Here to the Moon and Back - SOTM #5

Cover SOTM #5! And here I am playing country music once again (it's all for money ). Last month I shared the Brad Paisley song I learned for a wedding, and this month I present the OTHER country song I learned for the same wedding. Performed by Dolly Parton and Kris Kristofferson in the 2012 musical "Joyful Noise", this tender song will be played while the bride makes her way down the aisle in another week or so. It's very fitting.

Played on the 716ce-LTD, recorded with the Sanyo camera. For whatever reason* my voice was not cooperating very well when I recorded this, so the high notes are really a stretch. Of course, that just means more guitar faces. Enjoy!

*Pro tip: Warm up those vocal chords!

How Long? (original) - STOM #5

Another month is closing fast! Almost June already? Time flies...

This month I put some polish on a song I've had in the attic for quite a while. After I initially started writing it I didn't know what exactly I wanted to do with it since (as you will soon discover) it's not really very orthodox or conventional for the type of avenues for which it is intended. But I figured it out. It's an honest song about the Exodus. We experience these feelings on a regular basis.

My idea for this song is for it to be just one part of a movement of "mini-songs", maybe two or three sections in total. This multi-part, "concept" song would go through the stages of emotions felt by the Israelite people as they escaped the enslaving bonds of Egypt, while at the same time paralleling our modern struggles with life's everyday dealings, and the attitude of joy that is (hopefully) developed in the process. For now I've just thrown together this one part as the rest has yet to show up in my doodles, so it's crude and incomplete. But my vision for this specific piece of the puzzle is a huge sound of searing, bluesy, weeping guitars. It'll be a stark contrast to what happens in the other movements once the entire thing is finished. Maybe later this year...

The guitar is tuned down one whole step, D-d. This might be a song for a baritone guitar, which is another bit of logistics... Enjoy!

Waitin' On a Woman - SOTM #4

Another month, another cover. Squeaking this one in right before the buzzer!

This month I take on yet another wedding song request (For another wedding, coming up in June). Here I present my cover of Brad Paisley's "Waitin' On a Woman" from his 2005 album Time Well Wasted. It was also included on his next two albums, first as a bonus track and then with Andy Griffith adding vocals and guest starring in the music video. I'm really not much of a fan of country music, but Mr Paisley's a great guitar player it was a wedding request. I suppose I can learn a country song or two for money... (yes, there's another one I'm learning, stay tuned for that later in May. )

Anyway, here it is in all of its acoustic glory. Not much to say about it except it really isn't a hard of a song to learn at all. Worth the effort if you need a bit of twang in your repertoire, although I hold back on that as much as I can. Should be a crowd pleaser at the farmers markets anyway. Enjoy!
