Open Season!

I love this time of year.  Everything in nature is blossoming and turning green and warming up and smelling amazing!  It also means the new farmers market season is here!  Over the past two years I've found quite a lot of enjoyment in playing for local farmers markets in Cambridge, OH and around here in the Raleigh, NC area.  I meet great people and get to be surrounded by fresh fruits, veggies, and baked goods as well as wonderful arts and crafts.  It's an honor to be a part of the wonderful tradition of locally-focused commerce.

As of this posting I've already put in two weekends worth of music at farmers markets.  Last weekend I played at the Wake Forest Farmers Market in Wake Forest, NC, a wonderful little community north of Raleigh.  I got to play there late last fall and was glad to go back, and I'll be back there a lot more this year.  The weekend before that I was at the Western Wake Farmers Market in Cary, NC, another market to which I made a happy return from last fall, and will continue to do so this year as well!

I've already booked most of my weekends through October at various farmers markets around the area.  I'll be hitting up wonderful communities all over the Triangle sharing some music and making friends.  Check out my "Live!" tab to see where I'll be and maybe come check out a local market.  Hope to see you there.  Cheers!

Save Me (original) - SOTM #4

The end of April is upon us (already?)! And while that may mean many things, you can add this to your list: a new original song from me! Ok, I'm probably more excited than anyone, and my excitement is really out of relief that another song is done for my original Song-of-the-Month journey. Let me just say, there is some feeling of accomplishment to be still on-track with my songwriting goal for this year. Because while the guitar side of it mostly comes fairly easy (no doubt from last year's SOTW escapade) the lyrics always end up being a brutal struggle that hopefully doesn't end awkwardly. Anyway, this month I've been working on another partial song that I've had laying around for a little while. As I mention in the YouTube description, "Save Me" is about everyday trials and everyday grace/redemption. It's kind of a simple song, which became my goal after trying to make it not so simple. Moral: let the song do the work. The lyrics, ever the champion, are in the YouTube description. Also, plenty of guitar faces in this one, so enjoy those. Cheers! Bel isi, -kyle

Father and Daughter - SOTM #3

A touch on the late side, but here's the cover song I was working on for the month of March. It was one that was requested for a wedding reception, for the father-daughter dance.

I've been a fan of Paul Simon's music for a long time, and cover many of his songs. It was nice to get this as a request, as it comes from his 2005 album, Surprise.
