Be Still My Soul - SOTM #7

And here's my cover song for July! (yes, I know it's August now, but I uploaded it in July )

If you saw my other thread for this month's original SOTM submission, you'll know that the last few weeks have been quite busy for me. Between moving and my grandpa's passing, we haven't exactly been on the grid very much. But I did find some time in the last few days to sit down and commit to "film" what I've been working on this month.

For this cover song, I had another song in mind for the month that I started to work on, but with the circumstances of my time away, I decided to offer a bit of a tribute to my grandpa. He was an awesome dude with a great spirit. And he was always whistling or humming; he was probably the best whistler I ever heard. There was always a song on his lips, and usually it was an old hymn. For his funeral, my siblings and I were asked to provide some music throughout the funeral, and I had been working on my own fingerstyle arrangement of this hymn so I offered it as a prelude to the service. It's lyrics are a perfect fit for my grandpa's life, and the tune is soothing as well. It's also well-known as the "Finlandia Hymn".

Needless to say, my performance in this video is a little more... confident than when I played it for my grandpa's funeral. Enjoy!

Bel isi,
